BLACK SEEDS MUSIC VID
Monday, February 20th, 2012

Daniel Weetman tells of his experience at Island Bay Studios:

We had two weeks working at Island Bay Studios to create “The Black Seeds” 2nd single “Cracks in our Crown.”

A lot of preparation time was needed to make sets for the video. Art department worked solidly over the two weeks building walls for rooms and halls which needed to be broken down and resembled many times. The size of Nic’s studio space was ideal for making this happen easily.

The last two days of shooting involved twelve dancers. Much of the video revolves around a man traveling through a world of unusual characters and unusual rooms and spaces.

“Cracks in our Crown” was directed by Darwin Go. He pulled a lot of favours to make this video happen and to take on a loose idea I’ve had for many years to involve synchronized dancing.

We worked hard and had a lot of fun making the video. Nic’s studio in Island Bay was perfect for the video shoot and I would love to do other projects in the same space.

And here is the completed music video in all it’s HD glory: Cracks in our Crown

EXISTENCE HI FREQ FOLEY
Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Much of the Foley of the soon-to-be-released film Existence was recorded and high sample rates and pitch-shifted down. With talented Foley artist Rosemary Cullin, Nic McGowan recorded horse and saddle foley as well as the clothes and paraphernalia of a post apocalyptic world. I really enjoyed recording certain elements (like the horses and boundary horsemen themselves) at high sample rates and then shifting the recordings down by as much as 15 or 20% to acquire a certain heaviness and menace in the way they sounded. – Nic McGowan
